Founding Engineer (Backend, TypeScript)

Build and own the technology

AssureNode is building a continuous compliance and Governance, Risk and Compliance automation platform. It is designed to connect to cloud, code, identity and HR systems, collect evidence, and help organisations assess and demonstrate compliance with frameworks such as SOC 2 and ISO 27001, and requirements under India’s DPDP Act.

The platform is in development. We are looking for an in-house technical owner who can work with our engineering partner during development, independently assess the system, and lead our first design partner integration and transition into production.

Your first 90 days

Handover, testing and integration will overlap. Priorities will depend on your joining date, module readiness and the design partner’s needs.

• Learn and verify the system: review the architecture and decision records, run it end to end, understand the development workflow, and establish company-controlled access to repositories, environments and deployment tooling.
• Test as modules arrive: build and run a readiness plan covering tenant isolation, authentication, permissions, audit trails, evidence handling, exports and recovery. Track defects and work with the engineering partner to resolve them.
• Lead integration and readiness: validate the integrations needed by the first design partner, rehearse releases and rollback, and recommend whether the platform is ready to launch. Agree the launch decision with the founder and technical reviewers.

What you will own

• Backend development across compliance workflows, evidence collection, integrations, monitoring and policies.
• Security and quality: customer data boundaries, access controls, database changes, code review and release checks. Support AssureNode’s SOC 2 and ISO 27001 work through change records, access reviews and customer security questionnaires.
• Reliable integrations that handle failures, retries, rate limits and changing third-party APIs.
• Production operations: deployment, monitoring, incident response, runbooks and recovery testing, with support responsibilities agreed during handover.
• Technical decisions, clear communication with the founder and clients, and helping hire the next engineers.

How we work

You will help maintain a disciplined development workflow: written architecture decisions, automated checks and review before changes merge. The role requires challenging assumptions, reading code critically and testing security properties. Automated checks support engineering judgement; they do not replace independent review.

What we are looking for

4+ years building backend services, including at least 2 years of TypeScript or Node.js in production, and experience as the senior or sole engineer responsible for a live product.

• Strong PostgreSQL fundamentals: data modelling, migrations, indexing, transactions and query performance.
• Experience with NestJS or a comparable Node.js framework, and practical AWS and CI/CD knowledge.
• Sound security habits across authentication, authorisation, secrets management and application security testing.
• The ability to find problems in code you did not write, prioritise risk and explain trade-offs to non-engineers.

Useful experience includes multi-tenant SaaS and PostgreSQL Row-Level Security, Drizzle ORM, WorkOS, background workers, the outbox pattern, infrastructure as code, and B2B security or compliance products. You do not need every tool on this list.

Ownership and growth

You will work directly with the founder and have substantial responsibility for the platform and engineering standards. The role can grow into Head of Engineering and potentially CTO as the company grows, depending on performance, demonstrated leadership and business needs.

Working with the founder

The founder leads business and product. Founder is the ex-Head of Fintech Solutions at NPCI who drove the UPI and RuPay businesses in India. You will own the technology, work closely together on product decisions and build an engineering team over time. We will discuss workload expectations and support openly.
