Job Summary

DigitalXnode is looking for a Data Reporting Engineer with 3–8 years of experience in SQL development, SSRS reporting, SQL performance tuning, and Power BI for an Indian Client. The role focuses on improving existing SSRS reports, simplifying complex SQL logic, identifying performance bottlenecks, and supporting migration to Azure Fabric and Power BI Tabular reporting.

The ideal candidate should be highly comfortable with complex T-SQL, stored procedures, views, functions, execution plans, indexing, and data dependencies, with strong attention to detail and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyse and deconstruct complex SQL logic, including dynamic SQL, stored procedures, views, nested views, scalar functions, and table-valued functions.
• Map data flows and dependencies across database objects to understand report data sources and data lineage.
• Identify and diagnose query and stored-procedure performance issues.
• Apply advanced query tuning and optimization techniques to improve report execution time and reduce server load.
• Refactor complex SQL into simpler, readable, and maintainable structures without changing report output.
• Prepare and maintain documentation covering SQL logic, data dependencies, analytical insights, and proposed improvements.
• Apply SQL development best practices for performance, readability, and maintainability.
• Migrate on-premises SSRS reports to Power BI Tabular reports using Azure Fabric capacity.
• Build Power BI dashboards and interactive reports that accurately reflect required SSRS reporting formats.
• Validate changes carefully to ensure report results remain accurate after optimization or refactoring.
• Work with technical and business stakeholders to understand existing reporting logic and communicate changes clearly.

Required Technical Skills

• 3–8 years of relevant experience in SQL development, reporting, or data reporting engineering.
• Expert-level T-SQL covering syntax, functions, joins, subqueries, window functions, and advanced query techniques.
• Strong hands-on SSRS experience.
• Advanced SQL query optimization and performance tuning skills.
• Ability to read and understand SQL Server execution plans and indexing strategies.
• Ability to reverse engineer complex SQL and understand data lineage and dependencies.
• Experience with stored procedures, dynamic SQL, views, nested views, scalar functions, and table-valued functions.
• Hands-on Power BI and Power BI dashboard experience.
• Experience with SSRS-to-Power BI migration.
• Knowledge of Azure and Azure Fabric reporting environments.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, attention-to-detail, and English communication skills.

Preferred Technical Skills

• Power BI Tabular models and semantic reporting structures.
• Azure Fabric capacity and cloud reporting.
• SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS).
• SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and data-flow concepts.
• Modernization of legacy reporting environments.
• Report-output validation during migration or refactoring.

Managerial Experience

No direct people-management responsibility is there but there would be collaboration with technical and business stakeholders.

Operational Experience

• SSRS report development and maintenance.
• SQL Server query analysis and performance tuning.
• Execution-plan analysis and indexing review.
• Complex SQL refactoring and documentation.
• Data lineage and dependency analysis.
• SSRS-to-Power BI migration support.
• Power BI dashboard development.
• Report validation and quality assurance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Candidates from any graduate background may also be considered if their relevant experience and technical skills align with the project requirements.
• 3–8 years of relevant experience.

Certifications

Preferred, But Not Mandatory

• Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300)
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203)
• Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate (DP-600)
