TITLE: Senior Manager, Application Development

BUSINESS UNIT DESCRIPTION:

Financial Crime & Enterprise Risk Technology is part of CIBC’s Enterprise Technology Team, responsible for delivering innovative technology products and services that support the bank’s digital transformation. The team works at the forefront of enterprise-scale projects, leveraging leading-edge technologies to enable CIBC’s business goals, ensure regulatory compliance, and manage risk.

JOB PURPOSE:

The Senior Manager, Application Development role is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight for the development functions across Enterprise Risk Technology portfolio. As a Sr. Manager, Application Development you will lead and mentor a mixed team of developers and technical specialists across different skill levels, ensuring that all systems, APIs, and databases are designed, developed, and maintained to meet the highest standards of scalability, security, and performance.

How you’ll succeed:

• Understanding Requirements- Work with reporting managers and internal partners to determine, negotiate and manage services to the agreed standards. Monitor service levels to identify opportunities for improvement and recommend appropriate solutions.
• People Leadership- Lead and coach a high performing group team of individuals. Direct, motivate, and develop your team, maximizing their contributions and professional growth. Share knowledge and collaborate to come up with effective solutions to problems.
• Relationship Management- Work closely with Canadian onsite and/or other offshore managers to assure team members are aligned with release and project goals and contribute to team success. Impact and improve the business by advising tech application owners on the technology possibilities and work status.

WHO ARE YOU:

• You can demonstrate 10 to 15 years of experience leading and delivering application and data initiatives in large enterprise environments. Strong hands-on experience with SQL, Informatica ETL, data warehouse technologies, enterprise applications, integrations, and data platforms is expected. Experience with modern development methodologies and toolchains supporting Agile, CI/CD, and DevOps is important. Exposure to big data technologies such as Spark, PySpark, streaming, Databricks, and Azure Cloud is highly desirable. Experience with Oracle Exadata or other data warehousing databases, Cognos reporting, and AutoSys scheduling would be a strong asset. Additional exposure to Azure architecture, Azure Data Factory, container technologies such as Docker, functional programming such as Scala, and real-time architecture including the transition from batch to streaming concepts would also be beneficial.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Technical Leadership:

• Lead the technical design, development, and integration of cross-functional, multiplatform application systems.
• Independently drive projects, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality outcomes.
• Oversee and mentor Level 7 & Level 6 developers, providing guidance and support as needed.

Communication with Onsite team:

• Engage directly with onsite resource managers to understand asks, work and support requirement and delivery expectations.

Programming Skills:

• Develop, code, and test end-to-end stack of applications.
• Understanding in reading and writing JAVA,SQL and nice to have writing Pyspark Code is big plus
• Ability to manage code reviews with Peers and developers
• Ability to manage and understand Development Integration Test Cycles
• Nice to have experience within the AZURE Medallion architecture is also big plus
• Review, analyze, and modify programming systems, including coding, testing, and debugging.
• Must have the ability to manage teams in documenting all relevant changes to defects and code changes

Relationship Management:

• Build strong relationships and partnerships with technical team members, clients, vendors, and peers.
• Lead discussions, listen, and ask questions to ensure problems/issues are identified and resolved.
• Communicate detailed information in an impactful way, verbally and in writing.
• Able to work with Peers to present to Sr Leadership through visual presentation with advanced verbal communication skills

Collaboration & Interdependency Management:

• Foster collaboration across development, QA, and other technical teams, recognizing and managing interdependencies.
• Ensure seamless communication and coordination between teams to support project objectives.

Compliance & Risk Management:

• Ensure adherence to all regulatory and information security standards and policies in application management.
• Provide technical guidance concerning business implications of application development projects.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• This role operates within a normal office environment with little exposure to adverse working conditions.
