About the Role
When a bank's payment doesn't move, someone has to find out why — in code they didn't
write, on servers they can't log into, with the bank on the line. We're hiring two people who
want to be that someone.
Our payments platform moves money for large banks: microservices in Node.js, Go, Java
and Angular on MongoDB, NATS and Redis, running on Kubernetes.
When a payment doesn't move, a fee doesn't post or a screen goes blank, you find out why
from the code, the data and the logs. Then you fix it so it can't happen again.
What You'll Do
● Every production issue, end to end: from the bank's ticket to the fix running in their
release.
● Hunt root causes. Triage bank tickets, reproduce the failure, find the cause in code,
data and logs. When it's infra, network or a third party, prove it with evidence.
● Read the data like a detective. Read-only MongoDB queries that show exactly what
happened. Audit live data (schedules, holidays, duplicates) before it hurts, and
reconcile it safely.
● Make it fast. Slow screens, long-running queries, connection-pool leaks, end-of-day
CPU spikes, pod evictions: take each to a cause, then fix the query, the index or the
resource limit.
● Ship the fix. Backport it across many live release lines, knowing its blast radius
before it goes out.
● Pass the bank's scrutiny. Triage vulnerability-scan findings and answer audit
questionnaires.
● Be the voice the bank trusts. Customer replies, RCAs, audit responses, weekly status
reports, leadership briefings.
● Write it all down. Runbooks, RCAs, decisions and the things only you know go into
shared docs the whole team can find.
● Build your own tools. scripts, agents and knowledge bases that make the next
investigation faster than the last.
What We're Looking For
● 5+ years owning production for distributed systems, as an SRE, production or
backend engineer.
● Fearless with code you didn't write. Node.js and Go fluently, Java well enough. You
can trace an issue from an Angular screen down to the database.
● MongoDB in depth. Aggregation pipelines, $lookup, indexes, explain(), slow-query
logs and schema drift. Safe, read-only queries on production data.
● Distributed-systems instincts. Event-driven flows (NATS), Redis, schedulers,
workflow engines, webhooks, retries, idempotency and race conditions.
● Containers. Docker, Kubernetes (limits, evictions, OOMKilled), Jenkins and AWS.
Comfortable diagnosing systems you can only see through logs you asked for.
● Excellent written and verbal communication. Short, accurate RCAs and replies that
bank engineers and executives act on. Calm and clear on an incident call, and able to
explain a failure to an executive in two minutes.
● A documenting habit. You leave runbooks, decision records and how-tos behind you,
so nobody has to ask you twice.
● You have looked at how your team works, found a better way and made it stick —
and you can tell us what changed.
● AI-native. Python, Node.js and mongosh for audits, safe data fixes and tooling. Daily
use of AI coding agents (we use Claude Code).
