Role Description The Entrepreneurship in Residence role at Data Tea Cafe is a contract, hybrid position based in Bengaluru, with some flexibility for work from home. In this role, you will work closely with the founder to shape and test new business ideas, refine the cafe’s startup model, and explore expansion opportunities in the food, beverage, and tech community space. You will analyze customer feedback and market trends, design and experiment with new offerings or services, and help develop partnerships with local tech groups, colleges, and startup networks. Daily tasks include creating and validating business hypotheses, coordinating small events or meetups, supporting operational improvements, and documenting learnings and metrics from pilot initiatives. You will also contribute to brand positioning, basic financial and performance tracking, and storytelling around the cafe’s data-science and AI theme.

Qualifications

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with experience or strong interest in launching, scaling, or experimenting with startup ideas.
  • Basic business skills such as market research, business model design, and understanding of unit economics or simple financial metrics.
  • Ability to collaborate with founders and small teams, coordinate with partners, and build relationships within local tech and student communities.
  • Comfort working in a hybrid environment, spending time on-site at the cafe in Bengaluru and working remotely when needed.
  • Strong communication skills, including clear writing, concise documentation of experiments, and confident interpersonal communication.
  • Interest in technology, data science, AI, or startup ecosystems, with willingness to engage in discussions and events around these topics.
  • Hands-on, self-directed work style, with the ability to manage multiple small projects and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Prior experience in entrepreneurship, operations, marketing, community building, or hospitality is beneficial but not required.
  • Relevant academic background (e.g., business, management, technology, or related fields) is a plus; diverse educational paths are welcome.
  • Preparing various types of tea (masala chai, adrak chai, green tea, special infusions) consistently according to brand recipes and spice ratios.
  • Should be interested in cooking.
