Founding Engineer

We are an early-stage startup in the AI-native SaaS space. We’re looking for someone to work directly with the founders and take ownership of an existing codebase.

You’ll maintain and improve what’s already built, help implement it better, and take ideas through to shipping and maintaining it. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving problems independently and taking responsibility for what they ship.

What you’ll do

  • Understand, maintain and improve the existing codebase.
  • Build and maintain the front end, the backend systems, APIs and integrations.
  • Test, debug, deploy and monitor software as it evolves.
  • Use AI tools effectively to help code, build and ship, while understanding, reviewing and taking ownership of the output.
  • Work with the founders to turn priorities into technical plans and communicate decisions and trade-offs clearly.

What we’re looking for

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and the ability to build, deploy and maintain software independently.
  • Experience working with backend systems, APIs and integrations.
  • Ability to understand an unfamiliar codebase, investigate problems and improve existing implementations.
  • Good understanding of AI and practical experience using AI tools to improve development and delivery.
  • Curiosity about new AI models and tools, with the judgment to assess what is useful.
  • Clear communication, initiative and comfort working as the first engineer in an early-stage company.
