Category Head - Sell Side

ABOUT US

We are quick commerce platform for building materials— delivering essential building materials in 30 to 60 minutes through a network of dark stores across Bengaluru. We are building India’s Screwfix via quick commerce: the app a contractor opens every day to order materials, and eventually to learn and solve problems on site.

THE ROLE

Category here has two halves. One leader owns the buy side — assortment, sourcing, pricing and inventory. This role owns the sell side: turning our ~2,000 SKUs and a growing pool of app traffic into placed orders, repeatedly, across every trade.

Today, a view is not an order. Your mandate is to change that — to make the app and website a self-serve engine that converts a contractor’s tap into an order and brings him back four to six times a month. You own the metric that decides whether we scale efficiently: views → orders. You report to the Founder& CEO and partner closely with the buy-side category lead, Product, and Marketing.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN

  • The storefront as a merchandising surface. App home, category and collection pages, hero-SKU placement, search and filter relevance, cross-sell and basket-building toward our target order value. Every screen is a conversion decision.
  • Sell-side category growth across all trades. You are the single layer all category data feeds into for demand. You set category-level order and GMV targets and decide where we push and why.
  • The conversion funnel, end to end. Search-to-product, product-to-cart, cart-to-checkout, checkout-to-order — diagnosed by category and by trade, with drop-off reasons instrumented, not just rates. You build the experimentation habit: test, ship, read, repeat.
  • On-platform promotions and sale events. The in-app promo calendar, hero-SKU price-leadership visibility, and owned sale events — closing the loop with Marketing and the buy side on offer economics.
  • Repeat and wallet share. With the retention team, move active pros toward 4–6 orders a month through reorder flows, buy-again, consumables subscriptions and saved-site ordering.
  • Catalogue quality for conversion. Imagery, titles, pack-size clarity and filters — the merchandising basics that make a time-poor professional trust the platform and tap.

WHAT YOU’LL BE MEASURED ON

  • App and web conversion rate (views → orders), by category
  • Orders per day contributed by organic, self-serve app traffic
  • Average order value and basket size
  • Sell-side GMV growth against target
  • Orders per active contractor per month (toward4–6) and repeat rate
  • Speed and volume of experiments shipped

WHO YOU ARE

  • 8-10+ years in Indian quick commerce or high-velocity e-commerce (e.g. Zepto, Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, BigBasket, Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, Udaan) in a category-growth, digital-merchandising, storefront or growth role.
  • You’ve owned a conversion or category-growth number at scale — not just run a category’s buying.
  • Data-native. You live in dashboards, cut your own funnels, and argue with evidence. You’ve built an A/B testing culture, not just talked about one.
  • A rare blend of a merchandiser’s instinct, a growth marketer’s rigour and a product manager’s empathy — you can brief engineering and design credibly.
  • Blitz scale temperament: comfortable building an engine from near-zero in a young company with incomplete data and daily change. Bias to action over playbook.
  • Bonus: experience selling to a B2B, trade or professional buyer — not only impulse-led consumer FMCG. Our customer reorders; he doesn’t browse.

WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT

Our buyer is a time-poor professional running live sites, not a consumer discovering products. Success looks like fast reorder and reliable stock, not impulse and discovery. Plywood, paint and wires are our early volume drivers, so you’ll build on real signal rather than a blank slate — and you’ll be building the conversion engine, not tuning a mature one.
