Job Title – Lead – Software Engineer (Java Microservices Developer)

Lead Software Engineer with strong expertise in Java, API Engineering, and Microservices Architecture, capable of contributing across the software development lifecycle from solution design and implementation through testing, deployment, and production support.

Purpose of This Role

This role will be part of the Platform Engineering team, focused on designing, developing, validating, and supporting scalable API and microservices-based platforms. As a Lead Engineer, you will apply strong software engineering practices to build secure, resilient, high-performing backend systems that power Fidelity's customer-facing and enterprise applications.

You will contribute to architecture discussions, influence engineering standards, and drive adoption of modern development practices across teams. Skills Required For The Role

Technical

• Strong hands-on experience in Java, micro services frameworks, and enterprise application development.
• Proven experience in designing and developing RESTful APIs, Microservices, and event-driven architectures.
• Strong understanding of API security, authentication, and authorization mechanisms such as OAuth2, JWT, OpenID Connect, and mutual TLS.
• Experience with distributed systems concepts including resiliency patterns, fault tolerance, service discovery, caching, messaging, and scalability.
• Familiarity of relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, MongoDB, or DynamoDB.
• Experience building and deploying applications in cloud environments, preferably AWS (EKS, ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, CloudWatch, IAM).
• Experience with testing frameworks such as JUnit, Mockito, Test Containers, Wire Mock, and API automation tools.
• Familiarity with observability tools including Splunk, ELK, Grafana, Prometheus, Open Telemetry, or similar platforms.
• Knowledge of secure coding practices, performance engineering, AI-assisted development, and Site Reliability Engineering principles.

Expertise We Are Looking For

• Deep expertise in Java-based backend development and experience building large-scale, highly available, cloud-native applications.
• Strong understanding of domain-driven design, microservices architecture, API-first development, and modern software design patterns.
• Ability to evaluate and apply emerging technologies to deliver business value while maintaining engineering simplicity and operational excellence.
• Experience building scalable platforms using containerization, orchestration, infrastructure automation, and cloud-native practices.
• Apply modern DevOps principles to improve engineering efficiency through automation, continuous integration, continuous delivery, and monitoring.
• Deep understanding of secure software development and application security practices to safeguard customer and enterprise data.
• Strong focus on software quality through Test-Driven Development (TDD), automated testing, shift-left quality practices, and engineering excellence.
• Drive improvements in test automation, code quality, performance, reliability, and production stability.
• Own outcomes through personal accountability and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions.
• Experience collaborating effectively with globally distributed teams across business and technology organizations.
• Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews, API reviews, and engineering governance activities.
• Experience leading technical design discussions, influencing architecture decisions, and mentoring engineers.
• Passionate about building maintainable, scalable, and observable systems with a strong customer-centric mindset.
• Experience contributing to reusable frameworks, shared platforms, engineering accelerators, open-source projects, or developer productivity initiatives is highly desirable.
• Ability to rapidly prototype ideas, evaluate solutions, and transform concepts into production-ready capabilities.
