About the role

We are looking for an AI-native Senior Forward Development Engineer with strong expertise in React and good hands-on experience with Java (Spring Boot), who can design and build scalable services and web applications for large-scale public health and governance platforms. Experience with Flutter is an added advantage.

By AI-native, we mean an engineer who treats AI as a core part of how software is designed, built, tested, and shipped. Using AI coding assistants and agentic workflows daily to multiply their output, while applying strong engineering judgment to review, validate, and own everything they deliver.

The role involves building user-centric web applications, creating reusable UI components, integrating with backend services and APIs, and collaborating closely with product and design teams. Strong design thinking, the ability to deeply understand user problems, question requirements, and shape simple, scalable solutions is central to this role.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Own the end-to-end delivery of assigned modules, from problem understanding and solution design through development, testing, and release.
Design, develop, test, and maintain responsive web applications using React and modern JavaScript.
Build and maintain reusable, accessible, and extensible UI components and application workflows.
Design and develop common UI components with strong extensibility and modularity, enabling reuse across multiple applications and allowing customization without tight coupling to specific use cases.
Drive frontend architecture and performance optimization, including component architecture, design system implementation, caching strategies, lazy loading, and optimization for low-bandwidth environments.
Integrate web and mobile applications with REST APIs, troubleshoot API and backend issues affecting user workflows, and contribute to backend implementation where appropriate.
Ensure adherence to approved architecture, coding standards, security requirements, and engineering best practices.
Lead and participate in code reviews, applying sound engineering judgment to assess correctness, security, maintainability, and overall code quality, including AI-generated code.
Collaborate closely with Product, QA, and Design teams to understand user needs, constructively challenge assumptions, and deliver intuitive, user-centric solutions.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices, development workflows, and responsible AI-assisted software development.

Required Skills & Experience

Core Requirements

4–5 years of overall software development experience.
Strong experience in product development; SaaS or platform products preferred.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to learn quickly.
Experience working in Agile / Scrum teams.
Hands-on exposure to Git, Docker, Jenkins, and Postman.
Daily, hands-on use of AI-assisted development tools such as Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar, with disciplined validation of generated output.
Strong understanding of responsive UI design and mobile application development, with a user-centric approach to problem solving.

Frontend – React (Primary Skill)

3–4 years of hands-on experience with ReactJS and modern JavaScript.
Strong proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3, and SASS.
Experience with state management approaches such as Redux, Context API, React Query, or Custom Hooks.
Experience with NPM and dependency management.
Good understanding of component architecture, reusable UI patterns, and responsive design.
Experience writing and maintaining unit and integration tests for React applications; ability to debug and enhance existing codebases.

Backend – Java / Spring Boot (Secondary Skill)

Hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot to build or maintain backend services and REST APIs.
Understanding of microservices architecture, REST API design, and API contracts.
Familiarity with relational databases such as PostgreSQL / MySQL and working knowledge of NoSQL databases.
Understanding of authentication and authorization (e.g., OAuth2, JWT, or Keycloak).
Experience with unit and integration testing for backend services is an advantage.
Good to have: messaging / streaming systems such as Kafka.

Frontend – Flutter (Good to Have)

Exposure to Dart and Flutter for mobile application development.
Familiarity with Flutter state management patterns such as Bloc.
Understanding of Flutter packages and dependencies, local storage (SQLite or similar), and mobile application testing.
Ability to read and make changes to an existing Flutter codebase is an advantage.

AI-Native Engineering

Use AI coding assistants as part of day-to-day development across implementation, testing, debugging, code review, and documentation.
Write effective prompts and break down work into well-scoped tasks for AI assistants or agents.
Review and validate AI-generated code for correctness, security, maintainability, and licensing considerations; remain accountable for shipped code.
Exposure to LLM APIs, RAG, or agentic frameworks is a strong plus.

Design Thinking & Collaboration

Demonstrate the ability to empathize with users and translate their needs into product and technical decisions.
Move from ambiguous problem statements to clear, simple solutions; prototype quickly, gather feedback, and iterate.
Communicate technical options and trade-offs clearly with product, design, QA, and engineering stakeholders.
