We are looking for a hands-on backend engineer who has personally built and owned a complex, data-correct financial application, and can do it again.
The product is an AI-assisted workbench for fund controllers. Think trial balances, multi-step approval workflows, reconciliation agents, and numbers that become booked accounting entries
downstream.
Ideal domains:
- Alternative asset management: private equity, private credit, real assets, hedge funds
- Fund accounting, fund administration, portfolio accounting
- Corporate accounting, ERP, general ledger, close-management software
- Banking, capital markets, BFSI broadly
Ideal baseline knowledge:
- Ledger & close: general ledger, journal entries, trial balance, period close
- Valuation & fees: NAV, valuations and marks, accruals, fee calculations
- Controls & audit: reconciliations, audit trails, maker-checker approvals
Technical Requirements
Application Design
- Python and Java. Built production services in Python (FastAPI, Pydantic, SQLAlchemy, PostgreSQL) and Java (Spring Boot, Maven). Comparable languages and frameworks are acceptable.
- Spec-driven development. Drove a spec-driven approach end to end through a product development lifecycle. The written spec led requirements, design, implementation, and verification, and it changed before the build did.
- Enterprise-grade web application development. Architected and owned a robust production web service: authentication/authorization, business logic, data models, data contracts, and application service boundaries.
- API and domain modeling. Designed contracts a UI and an agent can both consume: versioning, errors, idempotency, and role-based permissions.
- Correctness with numbers and dates. Handled currency, precision, rounding, negative values, periods, and timezones in production.
- Snowflake and database architecture. Owned the schema design and implementation for a large-data system.
- Infrastructure as code. Shipped IaC based application.
- Testing as a habit. Wrote unit and integration tests with mocked network calls, not “QA will catch it.”
Strong pluses: Experience with the Azure stack.
AI Agent Design
- AI agent building. Built and owned a production agent end to end: an LLM with a deliberate model choice, a multi-step workflow, the tools it calls, context carried from step to step, and results stored in a database.
- Structured outputs. Returned a schema the caller can validate.
- Evals. Built a robust eval framework for a production agent.
- Human-in-the-loop. Put a stop in code before a journal entry or a submitted close.
- Deterministic numbers. Kept calculations in services. The agent retrieves, compares, and raises exceptions.
- Strong pluses: implementation of an MCP server into production, accounting based agentic workflows.
