Director – Government & Sovereign AI Strategy

We are looking for a Government Consulting & Public Sector Strategy Leader to work at the intersection of government, public policy and artificial intelligence.

You will lead Gnani.ai’s engagement with Central and State Government ministries, departments, public sector undertakings (PSUs) and government institutions to identify, design and execute large-scale Sovereign AI initiatives.

This is an opportunity to help shape how India adopts AI across governance, citizen services, healthcare, agriculture, education, public safety and government operations.

We are looking for someone who can go beyond advisory and policy discussions to translate government priorities into funded programs, strategic partnerships and real-world AI deployments.

Key Responsibilities

1. Government Strategy & Stakeholder Engagement

• Build and manage relationships with senior government officials, ministries, state governments, public sector leaders and policy institutions.
• Identify strategic opportunities for AI adoption across Central and State Government departments.
• Represent Gnani.ai in government consultations, strategic meetings, working groups and industry forums.
• Develop long-term engagement strategies aligned with national and state AI priorities.2. Sovereign AI & Digital Transformation
• Develop AI transformation roadmaps for government departments and public institutions.
• Identify use cases for Indian-language Voice AI, conversational AI, Agentic AI and intelligent automation.
• Drive initiatives around sovereign AI infrastructure, citizen-service automation and AI-powered governance.
• Work with technical teams to translate complex government challenges into scalable, deployable AI solutions.3. Government Consulting & Program Development
• Develop proposals, concept notes, project reports, business cases and implementation roadmaps for government AI programs.
• Structure strategic initiatives, pilot projects and large-scale deployments in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
• Understand government procurement processes, tenders, RFPs, empanelment mechanisms and public-sector contracting.
• Coordinate with implementation partners, system integrators, research institutions and technology providers.4. Business Development & Strategic Partnerships
• Build a strong pipeline of government AI opportunities across departments and states.
• Identify relevant central and state government schemes, AI missions, digital public infrastructure initiatives and innovation programs.
• Drive opportunities from initial stakeholder discussions through proposal development, procurement and deployment.
• Establish partnerships with consulting firms, PSUs, academic institutions and public-sector technology organizations.5. Policy & Ecosystem Development
• Track developments in India's AI policy, digital governance, public-sector technology and data sovereignty.
• Develop policy recommendations, strategic briefs and thought leadership on Sovereign AI.
• Help position Gnani.ai as a trusted Indian AI technology partner for governments.
• Support government-led AI innovation programs, workshops, delegations and ecosystem initiatives.Ideal Candidate Profile
• 10+ years of experience in government consulting, public-sector strategy, public policy, digital transformation or government technology programs.
• Experience working with Central or State Government ministries, departments, PSUs or government-backed institutions.
• Background in a Big Four consulting firm, strategy consulting firm, public-sector advisory organization or government technology company is preferred.
• Strong understanding of government decision-making, procurement, tendering, budgeting and program implementation.
• Demonstrated ability to build senior stakeholder relationships and convert strategic discussions into executable programs.
• Excellent communication, presentation, proposal-writing and stakeholder-management skills.
• Ability to work across business, policy and technology teams.What Would Make You Stand Out?
• Experience leading large government transformation or e-governance programs.
• Existing relationships across Central Government, state governments or public-sector institutions.
• Familiarity with IndiaAI initiatives, sovereign digital infrastructure, AI missions and public-sector AI adoption.
• Experience with large-scale technology procurement, PPP models or government-funded innovation programs.
• Understanding of AI, LLMs, Voice AI, Indian-language technology or intelligent automation.
